Flying During the COVID-19 Pandemic


We remain solidly focused on our top priority: the safety of our Owners and our employees. That has been at the forefront of every decision made in our 55+ years—and especially throughout this unique time. We want you to know this, as well as the answers to the following questions regarding the state of our business and what we are doing to put safety first on every flight.

“Is it safe to fly—how are you changing your operations to mitigate the spread of COVID-19?”

NetJets’ Answer: As we continue to complete hundreds of flights a day, we do it while taking every precaution possible. Our approach includes the following measures:
  • Travel restrictions based on guidance from the U.S. Department of State, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and World Health Organization (WHO)
  • A multi-tiered aircraft cleaning and disinfecting program
  • Optional COVID-19 antibody testing for NetJets employees
  • Facial coverings are no longer required by NetJets employees, except where local mandates are still in place. Owners, however, may request Crewmembers wear facial coverings during interactions with them while aboard any NetJets aircraft or in a NetJets facility. Furthermore, if a Crewmember wishes to continue wearing a facial covering, that is up to each individual’s personal discretion

“How are you cleaning your aircraft?”

NetJets’ Answer: Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have seen our cost for cleaning per aircraft increase dramatically. Since the pandemic began, we have invested approximately $20M in our global response to COVID-19. (That’s more than some private jet charter companies have in annual revenue.) We mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by applying a rigorous, multi-tiered cleaning and disinfecting program, officially referred to as The NetJets CleanTM.

All aircraft interiors are treated with an antimicrobial barrier that bonds to surfaces, providing lasting protection from various bacteria, germs, and viruses like the coronavirus. Its durability comes from the molecular bond it forms with surfaces once cured. Prior to selecting this specific treatment, we meticulously researched nearly 100 different disinfecting products and issued this as superior in both application and longevity.

To prevent viral spread and ensure passengers board a pristine, mission-ready aircraft, surfaces are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after each flight with a product that is EPA-approved and effective at killing the COVID-19 virus. Any NetJets aircraft that return from a region identified by the CDC as high risk are immediately quarantined and professionally cleaned.

“Is the cabin air quality safe for flying during the pandemic?”

NetJets’ Answer: Many travelers have a common misconception about the air on the aircraft—they often think it is not refreshed, but rather recirculated. All of our aircraft replace cabin air with fresh outside air every two to four minutes, depending on the fleet. For comparison, most office buildings only do this every 15 to 20 minutes. 

“How are you protecting crewmembers and employees?”

NetJets’ Answer: Our goal is to mitigate the risk of our Crewmembers and employees contracting COVID-19. By clustering aircraft at base locations where we have a high concentration of Crewmembers, we enable pilots and flight attendants to report for duty and return home via their personal vehicle or a NetJets aircraft as often as possible rather than by commercial airlines. Additionally, all Crewmember travel is closely monitored; those exposed in any manner are prohibited from entering NetJets facilities and aircraft for 10 days and until they are no longer symptomatic.

100% of our Crewmembers have been tested for COVID-19. As needed, we continue to offer PCR tests, the gold standard in COVID-19 testing, as well as rapid antigen tests, to our Crewmembers. In addition, we proactively test anyone who travels to high-risk locations, has been exposed to COVID-19, or becomes symptomatic.
